The British Athletes Commission’s response to the recent commitment to high performance sport in the Comprehensive Spending Review
The British Athletes Commission’s response to the recent commitment to high performance sport in the Comprehensive Spending Review with increased funding for both UK Sport and UK Anti-Doping.
As the voice of the high performance athletes in Great Britain we welcome the 29% increase in funding to UK Sport from the Exchequer to support our members realising their potential at the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio in 2016, Pyeongchang in 2018 and Tokyo in 2020.
The commitment from the Government clearly demonstrates their continued support and confidence in both UK Sport and our athletes to deliver results at Olympic and Paralympic Games, enabling our members to continue to inspire future generations and make the nation proud.
The increase of 7% to UK Anti-Doping budget means our members can have the knowledge and reassurance that the fight to keep sport clean will continue
Anna Watkins MBE, Chair of the BAC Athlete Advisory Group; “The Government’s confirmation of the Comprehensive Spending Review was an important day for high performance sport in Great Britain, knowing that UK Sport and UK Anti Doping can continue to support our members competing on the world stage and means we can continue to be world class and world leading.”
