The Voice of Great Britain's Elite Athletes
Samantha Murray - Athlete Network Manager
Sam won the last medal for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games bringing home a Silver medal in the Modern Pentathlon. She is still the youngest ever female Olympic Medalist in her sport. A Bath based athlete, Sam graduated in 2013 from the University of Bath with a degree in French and Politics. Over the course of an eight-year professional career, Sam became a multiple World and European champion, World Cup winner, five-time British Champion as well as a second Olympic Games appearance in 2016 in Rio De Janerio where she finished in 8th place.
Joining the BAC a few months after announcing her retirement, Sam has stepped into this role as someone who understands the high-performance sport system well and is able to empathize with our membership on all levels. Sam speaks three languages, has presented international news stories, brokered commercial deals for herself and others and acts as a team leader for other athletes. Sam’s strong commercial acumen together with recognized excellent communication skills provide a fantastic link to the BAC and our ever expanding network.
As athletes, we train hard for days, weeks and years in order to succeed at the highest level in sport, so it is important that our views are heard and considered when decisions are made about us.
I would encourage anyone who wants to support their teammates and NGBs, to further develop life skills, and be part of a wider network of AR’s.
