Representation

The core of the BACs’ work is athlete representation, both within sports, and to the key decision makers in the sports governing bodies. To do this work effectively it is key that the BAC has good links with athlete representatives in all sports, and works to ensure that these representatives are well supported. Athlete reps are the most important links in the chain of athlete representation within any sport. If the athlete rep is not doing an effective job the whole system comes crashing down and the athletes end up with no voice and no influence within their sport.

The BAC is committed to establishing and supporting athlete representatives within elite sport in the UK by making it easier for them to carry out their role.

The job of the athlete rep can be made much easier if there is good support behind them, and if they have a clear understanding of how to do their job.

The BAC will be making the role of the representatives easier by:

• Helping to run athlete rep elections
• Giving advice on how to represent their athletes within their sport
• Ensuring that NGB’s provide adequate support for their athlete representatives
• Providing support and advice on how to carry out their role including how to:
• Prepare for meetings
• Chair meetings and take minutes
• Carry out athlete surveys
• Deal with athletes problems
