Safeguarding

At the British Elite Athletes Association, we are committed to ensuring all athletes are engaging in safe sport, free from harm.

Safeguarding values sit at the core of our organisation and form the basis of every decision we make. We seek to champion safeguarding throughout the high-performance sport system, using our voice to proactively address and remedy concerns.

We work closely with partner organisations to hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards, ensuring our knowledge, practice and training is kept up to date.

Our Head of Safeguarding, Elaine Francis, works alongside both athletes and sports to ensure safeguarding processes are understood and being correctly implemented.

She joined the organisation in 2021, following a secondment from the NSPCC. During this secondment, Elaine led the support team set up specifically to offer end-to-end case management for children, families and elite athletes affected by allegations of mistreatment in gymnastics.
